Fashion Forecasting
ePortfolio Assignment-Reflection
In completing my final fashion forecast project, I was able to tie elements of what I learned from class to practice. I had started Fashion Forecasting about a year ago, and did not have a firm understanding of what someone working for a Fashion forecasting firm would actually do. The textbook we were assigned helped with learning a lot of the material, but this final project helped me tie coursework to practical job skills.
For this final project I was excited to go for a creative, non-conventional, geometric fashion trend. Through research on ‘Prismatic Fashion,’ I was able to qualify it as a viable and upcoming fashion trend. The purpose of the project was to help us detect and deliver schedule of the upcoming textile choices and hot colors associated with the trend. This was gone over repeatedly in the book, but it helped to actually decipher this information for our own forecast. Besides the color and textile forecast, we had to show example of silhouettes representing our trend. This was similar to a lot of the ‘mini-trends’ we would talk about in class, but so much more fun with all the examples lined out in our project. This final project was presented publicly for the class, and I feel that is an area where I need improvement. Public speaking makes me nervous to no end, so I was able to practice this important job skill as well.
Overall, it was a thrill to actually complete this class and helped me put job skills into perspective when it came to Forecasting. Actually doing our own research helped us delve deeper into these upcoming trends and our research and I enjoyed seeing the formats all my classmates created their forecasts in. I would recommend continuing this assignment for upcoming classes- it’s a great way to tie many elements together and get our feet wet.

Fashion repeats itself, a well-known mantra among the style conscious and trendsetting. But has there ever been something so unique of its own origin, its own creation? There are many fashion professionals who can debate their opinions, but for me, one trend that seems to have no exact roots, and is of pure inspiration is Prismatic Fashion. In this essay we will cover the colors, textiles, silhouettes, and end uses for this up and coming trend.
Through research, it is safe to say, prismatic fashion is funky! The definition of a prism is, “. A glass or other transparent object in this form, especially one that is triangular with refracting surfaces at an acute angle with each other.” Prisms are able to refract the hues of the rainbow, and that is the color palette forecasted for this trend. Bright, saturated colors will be complimented with metallic coated textiles. In present runway shows we have seen couture designs of prismatic fashion and almost all have been out of some metallic material such as lame or leatherette. As this trend continues to make its way down the trend ladder, we will begin to see more consumer friendly materials such as knitted jersey patterns and printed cotton blends for ready to wear. This trend has not yet hit the mainstream and I forecast that within a year we will see blazers in prismatic fashion, more triangulated accessories, and even homes constructed in similar fashion.
Overall, it its nice to see fashion that is literately breaking the mold with use of alternative materials, and inspired design. It is nice to see something that is strange in a fun and creative way and our interpretation of it from its structured place on runways to the end ready wear.
